How many people should be on our Team?
Team sizes can be from 2-12 possibly more provided there is housing available. Individuals are also welcome.
Will I always be working with my Team?
In most cases you will be working side-by-side with members of your team but on occasion you may have an opportunity to help out another team.
What does a typical work day look like? (Start/ Finish/ Lights Out?)
Hours of Operation are 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Thursday. Breakfast will be at 7:00am and tool checkout at 7:30am. We'll be back at base camp around 5:00pm to check in tools & clean up. Dinner is at 6:00pm. Lights out by 10:00pm. Sundays are days of rest and worship.
What are the housing arrangements?
TBD once Base Camp is setup.
Are there showers/ facilities?
An enclosed shower trailer which has toilets will be onsite. You will need to bring your own towels and toiletries. Bring flip flops for showering.
What should I wear? (clothing style and footwear)
Respectful, practical attire is recommended (T- Shirts and knee length shorts or jeans). Gutting homes produces a lot of potential for scrapes and cuts so arms and legs covered as much a possible is best. Full shoes are necessary, the sturdier the better! There will be nails and heavy objects. Wearing sandals of any kind will prevent you from going out on projects. Bring 2 pair of sturdy work gloves.
Will drinking water and/or Gatorade be supplied?
Water will be supplied. It is recommended that you bring drinks that replenish your electrolytes, (Gatorade, Powerade, etc).
Will Personal Protective Equipment be supplied? (respirators, safety glasses/goggles, gloves?)
It is always our desire to have these things available but it is also wise for you to bring extras. Any safety supplies left behind when you depart, will be welcomed.
Should I bring tools?
Yes, Yes, Yes... We do have a good number of tools but can always use more on each job. Hammers, mallets, utility knives/blades, crow bars, philips-head and flat head screw drivers, battery operated drills. Mark your tools and remember that you are responsible for them.
What should I bring for personal use?
Pillows, blankets, bath towel, toiletries, flip flops, 2 pair of sturdy work gloves, Gatorade.
Do you provide transportation to and from the airport?
No, we do not provide transportation to and from the airport. We suggest renting a vehicle and driving to the site. In some cases, when it is an individual, we may make an exception, but it would need to be discussed before the final plans are made.
Is there a best type of vehicle for our teams to come in?
Depending on team size, it is recommended to have a pick up or SUV per 4-5 people that can transport gutting tools. Trailers are not available.
Is there a policy on prescription medication?
You know your meds and requirements but if there is something other team members or camp leaders should be made aware of, please let them/us know.
What age do I need to be?
We require all volunteers to be 18 years or older.
Is there a cost per individual or team?
Yes, we are asking for $10 per day per person to help subsidize the cost of food. It is best to pay the amount on the website (making a note for Team Housing and church, organization, or individual names) prior to your trip then bring a copy of the receipt with you for verification. Cash is not recommended. If it is not possible to pay online then a check can be written to Vineyard Mercy Response and brought with you.
